28 MAY, 2014. The Nativity Catholic School, El Monte, California has been honored for its innovative approach to education. The Electives Week that began at the school in 2012, and dedicates a full week to extra curricular activities, has been recognized by the Today’s Catholic Teacher Magazine at its annual 2014 Innovations in Catholic Education Awards. The electives are designed so that students can learn things that are not part of the regular curriculum, such as gardening, photography, cooking, music, engineering, science is eggcellent, virtual dissection using iPads, zumba, Spanish, drama, arts/crafts, public speaking, yoga, etc. The award was presented to Principal Stacy Reineman SSL at a special celebration banquet at the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) National Convention in Pittsburg on April 23.
