St Louis Middle School, Bury St Edmunds, closes its doors

burystedmonds 250x25028 SEPT, 2016. A large gathering of people congregated in St Edmundsbury Cathedral to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to mark the closure of St Louis Middle school on Tuesday, July 19. It was a bittersweet celebration Mass for the school, which operated from 1971 to 2016. The closure came as a result of the reorganisation of the education system in West Suffolk, changing from a three-tier system to a two tier one, eliminating all Middle schools in the county. Pupils from all three tiers are now dispersed between St Edmunds RC Primary and St Benedicts RC Upper School and other schools in the Bury area. A very packed cathedral represented current pupils and staff who were joined by invited guests and friends of St Louis. The Mass was led by Fr Mark Hackeson, parish priest of St Edmunds Church, who was joined by other priests that served the school over the years.
