26 OCT, 2016. On October 9, the parish of Kiltimagh said a fond ‘Goodbye’ to the Sisters of St Louis who served them so well for a total of 119 years. Led by the late Sr Philomena Lynch SSL, the Sisters of St Louis first came to Kiltimagh in 1896 at a time of great educational and material need in the village. In the ensuing years, a strong educational system at Primary, Secondary, Technical and Commercial levels was built up by a host of successive sisters and their lay colleagues. A lack of new vocations, along with an ageing community, has made it impossible for the sisters to remain, and they have all transferred either to Nursing homes or other communities.
