Oku community, Ghana, and Sisters open new block at the Catholic Clinic

28 November, 2019

Last month, the Sisters of St Louis in Ghana and the Oku community officially opened a new block at the Catholic Clinic in Oku. The new block, which will significantly improve the quality and accessibility of health care in the locality, was built together with the local community, and has three rooms – a laboratory, an ultrasound scan room and a pre-delivery maternity ward.

In 1993, the St Louis sisters began their ministries in the community, and they have never stopped working towards the spiritual and physical well being of the people. The new block, which was built together with the local community, has three rooms – a laboratory, an ultrasound scan room and a pre-delivery maternity ward. The main purpose for the building was to make health care more accessible to the people who come to the facility. Before, clients would have had to travel to Ejura, a nearby town for Laboratory tests and ultrasound scans. The pre-delivery maternity ward, which has two beds, will reduce home deliveries, as many pregnant women living in villages far away from Oku will be able to stay here a few days before their due date, which will reduce the instances of home births and the risks associated with them.
