In September 1988, Dorothy McMahon SSL and Catherine Adelegan SSL were missioned to Ijio Meso in Oyo State, Western Nigeria, to start a Primary Health Care Project this remote village. The remoteness of the village was not due to its distance from towns and cities per se, but due to the extremely poor condition of the road in and out of the village, making accessibility very difficult. The Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) set up a community there in the 1940s but withdrew due to its remoteness.
Dorothy shares her memories in this article, of her time in Ijio, through words and images. To read more about Dorothy’s memories of Africa, click on Issue 114 of our monthly newsletter Musings.
