20 JUNE, 2019. Even though St Louis Nursery and Primary School, Kano, celebrated its 70th anniversary on January 18, 2019, the celebrations started much earlier than that, and went on for almost six months, with the grand four-day finale taking place last month!
The platinum celebration of St Louis Nursery and Primary School, Kano, brought to mind songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. Celebrating God’s Faithfulness in the last 70 years was a thing of joy for the entire family of this great citadel of learning. The celebration started in December 2018, where we had a fun fair that had lots of lucky winners in our raffle.
The celebration continued with a Thanksgiving Mass and send forth for our outgoing Principal, Christiana Biyab SSL, on January 18, 2019, which was also the foundation day of the school (January 18, 1949 to January 18, 2019). There were many guests invited, including priests and religious of the diocese, Isabel Mann SSL (Provincial Leader), Sisters of St Louis, parents and other well-wishers of the school. Our chief celebrant for the day was Fr John Namaza Niyiring OSA, the Bishop of the diocese of Kano.
The grand finale of the platinum celebration took place from May 1-4, 2019, beginning with a cultural display representing the cultural heritage, dress and tradition of all the tribes in Nigeria. Other activities that took place during the four-day event included: the launch of the platinum brochure and documentary; a health talk and free medical check-up; an interfaith Jubilee Prayer service; and, the Dinner Award Night. The four-day celebration concluded with a Thanksgiving Mass and Muslim prayer ceremony and the blessing of the Water Project by Fr John Namaza Niyiring OSA and its commissioning by His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
