SSL volunteering continues during the pandemic at LifeWay Network’s safe houses in NY

lifeway 250x25028 OCT, 2020. Michele Harnett SSL is a volunteer at LifeWay Network, which is one of only two organizations in the New York Metropolitan area providing safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking. Since 2012, they have provided a safe place to over 100 women from 34 countries. These houses provide “homes where survivors live in community and are provided with the resources they need to rebuild their lives - from the help of social workers, to mental health counselling, to legal support, to connections with educational and job training opportunities. After they leave the safe house, they can transition into an independent living arrangement within the community.” Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the ability to volunteer and minister in person has been severely curtailed. Instead, Sr Michele has been teaching conversational English on a weekly basis to one of survivors of human trafficking. She has been doing this through Zoom sessions, and will continue for the next six months.
