General Chapter 2021 – Day 3 – October 2, 2021

gc oct2 250x2504 OCT, 2021. The Chapter body is busy, as you can see from the update below from the Chapter Communications Committee on Day 3, October 2 - Bríd Long SSL, Mary Owusu Frimpong SSL, and Christie Kure SSL.

Dear Sisters,

The Chapter body is busy – minute takers, secretary, support sisters responding to our every need, committees galore: steering, liturgy, communications, ambience, facilitators, and busiest of all, the social committee. As you walk around the chapter room in the evening, it is great to see groups playing Rummikub, others having singing practice, preparing prayer, taking photos for Musings, dancing, finishing or checking minutes, and simply sitting chatting, all helped by refreshments provided by the social committee.

Overnight we reflected on the chapter conversations in which we all participated by Zoom, calling ourselves to discern:

What is being revealed from the process so far?
What is being revealed for the future of the Institute?

Personal reflection, small group sharing, reporting, and conversations to explore and expand our understanding of what is really emerging as our institute focus for the next six years led us, by the end of the day, to stay with Sint Unum in its many articulations. Of course, it’s early days yet, and much discernment and conversation are still needed before we develop the outcomes of the Chapter. We are realizing that it is important for us to have gathered in person, face-to-face, here in Ghana, and to have the time to explore what is behind the words we use, and to try to articulate with freedom, trust and courage, the dreams we have for ourselves, our Institute and our world today.

In looking back over the day, we agreed that it was very fruitful, and all participated actively in bringing our conversations to a deeper level. Starting each day in a contemplative atmosphere with faith sharing helps us to be conscious of the Spirit who accompanies our journey, and of you, our sisters at home.

Love from the communications committee,
Bríd Long SSL, Mary Owusu Frimpong SSL, and Christie Kure SSL
