There are three sisters of St Louis currently ministering in Brazil, in the central west region of the country, in the city of Goiânia. The Sisters of St Louis came to Brazil in 1976 with the mission to work directly with the poor and oppressed. In the early years, the sisters ministered in parishes where there were no priests and taught in the public school system. Today, they work with people with HIV/AIDS, in AIDS Prevention Education, in human rights, and with those who have been evicted from their land and resettled in areas with minimal living conditions.
